Welcome
to Tameer Microfinance Bank Limited. Our vision is to be
Pakistan's first nation wide, private sector, commercially
sustainable microfinance bank. One of the major enabling factors
for Tameer was the SBP 2001 Microfinance Ordinance regulating
the creation of commercial microfinance banks.
At Tameer, we want to commercialize microfinance so that it is
sustainable. If we stop thinking of the poor as victims and
start picturing them as entrepreneurs and customers, a new
potential market arises. Unless microfinance is financed through
commercial sources, it will remain in the realm of development
aid and its growth will be limited. If commercial capital is
utilized and utilized profitably, growth and thus poverty
alleviation can expand tremendously. In addition to growth,
financial sustainability will allow us to meet our costs and
provide a return to our shareholders. Whilst improving people's
lives, microfinance can become a valid, profit making business.
With a network of branches across the country, in areas and
communities where microfinance needs are greatest, we want to
(a) serve our customers with appropriate and well tested banking
services and tailor made products and (b) we want to be be part
of their communities. We are doing this by formulating and
executing an effective and understanding community relations
strategy and by hiring people from within our local communities
where we have our branches. We are also using cutting edge
technology in order to streamline and improve our services and
to cut cost.
If we take the larger picture, microfinance underpins the
achievement of many Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and plays
a key role in many MDG strategies. In days to come, we hope to
become part of this larger picture.
